2007 Program Overview

The National Textile Center (NTC) is offering a summer research program with a stipend of $6,500 for a 10-week internship. Lodging costs up to $1,000, travel (one round trip), and research supply costs will be reimbursed in addition to the stipend. The university at which the internship is located will assist with the logistics of arranging for lodging.  During the ten-week period, students will work with faculty at one of the 8 NTC universities on research projects involving science, engineering, or marketing disciplines in the fiber and textile area.

Open to Spring 2007 undergraduates attending U.S. universities, who are currently in their Sophomore, Junior or Senior years, and who are US Citizens or permanent residents.

  • Program includes $6,500 stipend + lodging (up to $1,000), travel (1 round trip) and research supply costs.
  • Internships are available at each of the 8 NTC universities (Auburn, Clemson, Cornell, Georgia Tech, NC State, Philadelphia U., UC Davis, and UMass Dartmouth).
  • Candidates can apply for internships at either one or two universities, neither of which can be the university they currently attend.  If two universities are selected, one must be designated as a first choice.  In addition, first and second choices of projects must be indicated for each university.  Only one application form can be submitted per candidate.
  • Decisions on acceptance into the program will be made by each university, and not by NTC
  • This REU program is dependent on funding from the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, and it may be cancelled at any time prior to March 15, 2007 if such funding is withdrawn.
